hi there everyone this message is for our second and third grade families in regards to the IREAD testing um for those of you that don't know me I am Mike Sopko I am principal over at Kyle Elementary now as I'm sure many of you are aware um the state has mandated some new rules and regulations of this school year in regards to IREAD testing um so and I as you know we are finishing up as a district the testing this week so I I wanted to make sure um keeping everybody on the same page especially with all the new information and things that are happening this year I know a letter went home to families in February kind of explaining these new steps and procedures but now as we are finishing up this round of testing I want sure that we keep everybody on the same page and that they know what upcoming information that you all are going to have coming towards you um let's go ahead and get started with this I have it broken down by second and third grade and I would encourage second grade families to be aware also of what uh third great families and students are are going to be uh doing as well because this could impact second grade students next year as they go into third grade first thing is you see across the top here I want to let all of our families know to be looking for I read results coming through parents where uh next Tuesday March 18th so Tuesday March 18th be looking for uh parents Square message with your child's individual I read results on them now speaking of those I read results I wanted to let everybody know what results they're looking for what the scores and the the phrasing is that you're going to be looking for when you receive those scores and then what's going to happen next we're going to go ahead and get started with second grade uh is the pass score is 446 points and that is the same for second grade or third grade um and actually that scoring range for passing goes anywhere from 446 points up to a perfect score of 650 points so if a second grade student scores at that pass range that student is done with taking IREAD they have passed the test they have moved on and congratulations to them for doing so um they they have successfully passed the test now the next stage in second grade um that's a little bit different than third grade is we have an area that is considered on track in second grade so if a student of course between 405 points and 445 points that student is considered on track in is in a great position to pass the test the next time they take that test most likely for those second grade students the next time they're going to take that test is about a year from now in uh March of 2026 as a third grade student now there's another range that we have for our second grade students and that is at 404 points or lower if a student scores at that range they are considered at the app risk range and it is strongly recommended that they attend summer school um so let me talk a little bit about that and what you can expect to see with that now uh on March 18th as I said results will be being sent home through parent Square then on March 19th if your child is scoring in that at risk range um you're going to be getting some information from your child's school it's going to have information about summer school um and uh so a summer school letter and a registration form to go ahead and fill out for summer school those uh forms are due back to the school by April 17th now something else to to just be aware of and it'll be they'll be more information about it on that form um but just to kind of give you a rough idea of when summer school is going to be taking place summer school will be uh starting June 2nd and go through Thursday June 26th um time frame for that is looking uh roughly from 8:30 in the morning till noon to kind of give you an idea so it's not a full school day but about 8:30 to noon will be that that summer cool time okay now let's uh let's move over and talk about third grade because there's some differences here between second and third grade so third grade only has the 2 levels when looking at testing there is simply pass which is that same score that we talked about before 446 points or higher and then we have the do not pass scoring which is 445 points or lower um so if a student in third grade does not pass this spring test they will have a retest opportunity um and and then uh if they do not pass after the retest opportunity they are required to go to summer school so let me go ahead and and uh kind of talk about this timeline and kind of explain the reasoning behind some of these things all right so again very similar to second grade results are going to go out on March um uh March 18th through parents Square to the families on March 19th those students in third grade that scored at the do not pass range will be getting the getting summer school letters and registration forms to complete as well now again if a third grade student did not pass um this spring session of I read um it is going to be required that they attend summer school however uh and again those forms are due ail 17th however there is going to be 1 more opportunity before summer school to to uh for a retest opportunity and as of now this is limited to our our third grade students and in fact um was just released I want to say a week or 2 ago from the Department of Education and letting us know that this was going to be an opportunity for our students in fact when that letter went home in February this was not uh an option that that we had so um kind of to to just review this again so if your child did not uh pass uh the third grade I retest as a third grader they're also going to get those Summer Schools letters and forms that need to be filled out and returned to school by April 17th then the week of May 19th this is the the third grade retest opportunity that I was talking about we are able now to give our third grade students another opportunity to retake the ivory test um and we are looking at doing that about the week of of May 19th as I as I was saying now here's the thing if those students pass the test during that week of May 19th those students names will be removed from summer school okay so those students will then not have to attend summer school congratulations they've passed the test um they do not have to take it again uh um and and they can move on from there so again they retest that that week if they pass um they don't have to take the test again and they no longer have to go to summer school their names are going to be removed however um if the student does not pass again during that retest opportunity in May again summer school is required for uh required for those students um let me again also just kind of touch base on um when those letters go home March 19th I just want to clarify so even if uh as we know third grade's going to have another opportunity to retake that test we still need those forms um filled out for summer school um so that we know roughly how many student students are going to be there so that we can start preparing for those start looking at Transportation start looking at classes and things like that um it'd be much more feasible for us to remove students from summer school than trying to add them at the last minute and get Staffing and transportation routes and things like that figured out so that's why we need all of that um all of that in advance and know again in that week of May 19th if uh if uh students pass that test then their names will be removed from summer school so now let's talk a little bit more about summer school if the third grade student does not pass that retest opportunity in may they will need to go to summer school this required that they go to summer school so we will have second and third graders at Summer School from June 2nd to June 26th now with that being said there is going to be a retest opportunity at the end of summer school in both second grade students and third grade students will have that opportunity to retest now in second grade again if the second grade students pass that test when they moved to third grade they won't have to worry about retaking of that test um for our third grade students circumstances are a little bit different um with our third grade students if they pass that test uh again the um they will not have to take that test again in and they will be most likely moving on to fourth grade however 1 of the state mandates with this is if the third grade student does not pass the I read test by the end of that summer session and does not is not eligible for a good cause exemption they would be retained and have to repeat third grade during the 2025 2026 school year um so again just to just to clarify with our third grade students they took the test here in the spring if they did not pass they're going to receive summer school information in a ration form they're going to have 1 more opportunity to try to pass the test uh before summer school in May if the students pass the test in that week of May uh their names will be removed from summer school if they do not pass that test they will be required to go summer school and again at the end of the summer school session they will retake the I read test once again if they they pass again they will not have to take the I retest again and will most likely be promoted on 24th grade however if they do not pass the test and they are not eligible um for a good cause exemption then they would have to uh repeat third grade
